Out and about

In this section:

The UK will offer you a range of ways to spend your spare time, including theatres, museums, festivals, music venues, and sporting events. Check locally to see what’s available.

Don’t just be a spectator though. Sports, for example, are played at all levels, and there are clubs and classes for almost everything you can think of – from individual sports such as martial arts and tennis, to team games such as hockey and basketball. Many sports also offer options for people who are less able.

Exploring

The UK’s landscape is very varied for such a small country. There are dramatic coastlines as well as areas of gentle, rolling countryside.

There are also major world cities with many famous buildings that reflect the long history of the UK. There are many public footpaths which are a great way to discover what’s around you.

The National Trust

The National Trust (in England, Wales and Northern Ireland) and the National Trust for Scotland are charities which look after important buildings, gardens, coastline and countryside. You need to pay to visit the properties and gardens because they’re expensive to maintain. If you like visiting National Trust buildings then you can pay a membership fee every year and visit all the places at no extra cost.
